YouTube sensation MrBeast recently claimed that he rented the Pyramids of Giza for 100 hours and was granted unrestricted access to explore the ancient landmarks. However, the Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities has publicly refuted his statement, clarifying that he did not receive special privileges beyond standard filming permissions.

MrBeast’s Claim Sparks Controversy

In a recent podcast interview with Olympian Noah Lyles, MrBeast—whose real name is Jimmy Donaldson—asserted that he had exclusive access to all three pyramids for 100 hours. He stated, “We got all three of the pyramids of Egypt for 100 hours. I’m gonna do a video where they let me explore anywhere I want in the pyramids.”

His video, now released, showcases him and his fellow content creators—Chandler Hallow, Karl Jacobs, and Nolan Hansen—exploring the Giza Plateau.

However, Egyptian authorities quickly dismissed his claim, emphasizing that while MrBeast and his team were granted permission to film, they were neither given exclusive access nor allowed to roam unaccompanied.

Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities Responds

The Egyptian Ministry of Tourism and Antiquities released an official statement via Facebook, categorically denying that MrBeast had rented the pyramids. Authorities clarified that:

  • MrBeast was only permitted to film outside regular working hours.

  • None of the historical sites were closed to the public for his shoot.

  • The content produced aligns with Egypt’s tourism promotion guidelines, showcasing the grandeur of the country’s ancient wonders.

  • Archaeologists were present on-site throughout the filming process to ensure compliance with preservation regulations.

MrBeast: The Global YouTube Phenomenon

With over 330 million subscribers, MrBeast operates the most-followed YouTube channel in the world. His content, known for high-budget challenges and large cash prizes, attracts millions of viewers. He also boasts over 104 million followers on TikTok and more than 30 million on X (formerly Twitter), solidifying his status as a dominant digital influencer.

Can the Giza Pyramids Be Rented?

MrBeast is not the first high-profile figure to film or host an event near the pyramids. The area in front of the historical monuments is available for rental, with regulations set by the Egyptian government in 2022.

In October 2023, American entrepreneur Ankur Jain and former wrestling star Erika Hammond hosted a grand wedding in front of the pyramids. Their opulent celebration, which reportedly cost close to $3 million, gained widespread attention on social media. The ceremony was officiated by renowned Egyptologist and former Minister of Tourism and Antiquities, Zahi Hawass.

Hawass later commented, “Egypt has gained a lot of publicity from this wedding and the star-studded guest list of attendees. This shows how Egypt is safe and the best destination for such a great event.”

Hollywood and Luxury Brands at the Pyramids

The Giza Plateau has been a sought-after filming location for decades. Major Hollywood productions such as The Spy Who Loved Me, Death on the Nile, and The Bucket List have included scenes filmed near the pyramids.

Luxury brands have also leveraged the site for high-profile events. In December 2022, French fashion house Dior staged a spectacular runway show in front of the pyramids to debut its Celestial Autumn 2023 menswear collection.

Costs and Regulations for Filming at the Pyramids

Egypt has a structured pricing model for filming at historical sites. The costs vary based on several factors, including:

  • Whether filming occurs during or outside working hours.

  • The number of people involved in the shoot.

  • Whether the requester is Egyptian or a foreign national.

For example, during official work hours, the cost of filming at the Giza Plateau is:

  • $11 for Egyptians

  • $98 for foreigners

The pricing increases for larger production teams or exclusive time slots outside of working hours.

While the Giza Pyramids remain one of the most iconic landmarks in the world, exclusive access is highly restricted. MrBeast’s claims of renting the pyramids for 100 hours have been firmly denied by Egyptian authorities, who maintain that his filming followed the standard guidelines applicable to all productions.

His video, though visually stunning, does not represent an exception to Egypt’s strict preservation policies. The Giza Plateau continues to serve as a prime location for cultural, cinematic, and commercial events—but always under government supervision.
